About Houston's First Baptist Church
Houston’s First has grown since the time they started in 1841 and as a church consistently seek new ways to reach people in the fourth largest city in the United States. In addition to The Loop Campus (where this hire is being made), three campuses have been added throughout the greater Houston area – Cypress, Downtown, and Sienna. The Loop Campus averages about 4000 in weekly attendance whereas all the campuses combined are in the neighborhood of 7000 in combined weekly attendance.
Their up-to-date buildings are used for everything from bible studies to fitness (including a gymnasium, fitness center, and even a bowling alley)! The people of Houston’s first are equipped with practical and relevant teaching from God’s Word and the congregation is challenged to live it out everyday of the week in their workplace, schools, families, and places of interest.
Coming full circle from their start, they are known for their many local and global missions efforts and partnerships, as well as being invested in targeted ministries designed to meet people where they are.
The church is launching a search for a High School Minister who has this same heart and passion to reach others and to build a transforming community!
Position Description
This role would oversee the student ministry for those in grades 9-12 and work with the HUB (what they call their Student Ministry) team of 6 others. The main program responsibilities fall on Sunday morning and Wednesday nights, and this new hire would pour into the volunteer leaders, special events, and work with the high school students directly.
Key Responsibilities
- Connect with volunteer leaders in large student ministry.
- Spend relational time with students, leaders, and parents.
- Create content for teaching and/or small group leaders.
- Collaborate with other staff for camps, retreats, and special events.
- Oversee HS budget and work with Student Minister on larger projects.
What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like
- Desire a relational person who is a master connector! Large groups (300+ on Sundays) and mid-week have four regional sites at large houses.
- Track record of being a team player; will be part of a great team of 7-8 in the Hub (student ministry)
- Seeking a creative mindset — the program needs diversity (balance of fun and maturing).
- Hopeful for strong speaking/teaching gifts.
- They seek a candidate who has completed their Bachelors and desires (or is already pursuing) a Master’s Degree.
