CrossWinds Church is looking for a Children’s Ministry Director who loves kids, loves building teams, and loves seeing families take their next step with Jesus. This role is responsible for leading our ministry to children from birth through 5th grade — and central to that is the necessity to lead, develop, and equip volunteer teams that create high-quality, Christ-centered environments for children and their families, helping them experience and live out the grace of Jesus. You’ll work closely with our Family Life Pastor to develop a ministry vision that helps children know, love, and reflect Jesus, and to equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders of their kids. If you’re someone who finds joy in the details and the big picture, and who genuinely believes that what happens in a kids’ room on a Sunday morning can change a life, this could be exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of CrossWinds Kids on Sunday mornings, ensuring every child from nursery through 5th grade experiences a safe, engaging, and spiritually formative environment.
- Recruit, equip, and empower a volunteer team to serve across all areas of Children’s Ministry — nursery, preschool, elementary, check-in, tech, and administration — building a culture where people serve out of calling, not obligation.
- Develop and implement a clear volunteer pipeline that takes people from their first step into serving all the way through ongoing growth, development, and celebration.
- Partner with parents to equip them as the primary spiritual leaders of their children, creating resources and experiences that extend faith conversations beyond Sunday mornings.
- Connect regularly with new and returning families, pursuing those who’ve drifted in order to build genuine engagement and lasting relationships.
- Collaborate with the Student Ministries team to ensure smooth and meaningful transitions for kids moving into middle school.
- Plan and execute creative monthly “wow” moments and seasonal events — including a summer kids camp or VBS — that build momentum and draw in families on the periphery.
- Develop a ministry vision aligned with CrossWinds’ mission, manage the Children’s Ministry budget with wisdom and transparency, and use church database tools to track engagement, growth, and family needs.
Requirements
- A Leader Who Builds People, Not Just Programs: The leader who will thrive at CrossWinds is someone who sees volunteers not as helpers to accomplish tasks, but as leaders to be equipped and empowered. They are energized by developing people, not just executing programming — and they build teams where people feel called, not obligated.
- A Family Discipleship Champion: This person has a clear philosophy about how to partner with parents as the primary spiritual influence in their children’s lives. They know how to create resources, environments, and rhythms that help faith go deeper than Sunday mornings — and they are proactive about building those relationships with families from the first visit forward.
- A Proactive, Ownership-Oriented Leader: CrossWinds wants someone they have to pull back, not light a fire under. This leader takes initiative, advocates for their ministry, and is comfortable making things happen rather than waiting for permission. They bring ideas, they follow through, and they are energized by the opportunity to shape something meaningful.
- Comfortable in a “Third Way” Church: CrossWinds holds deep conviction and genuine grace together, and ministers to people from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and spiritual journeys. The right leader will be comfortable serving within that culture — creating space for people to belong, wrestle, and grow, even when things are not neatly resolved.
- Relationally Wired and Collaborative: This person communicates clearly and proactively, gives and receives feedback with grace, and prefers honest conversation over letting things fester. They are excited to be part of a staff team that works with a high degree of trust and shared ownership.
Why We Love This Opportunity
CrossWinds is a unique church that takes its “Third Way” identity seriously, sits with hard questions honestly, and creates space for real people with real stories to belong and grow. What makes this role particularly compelling is how seriously Josh and the team take children’s ministry: this is a church that genuinely believes kids and students are among the most important investments they make, and the next Kids Pastor will have real ownership, real resources, and a leadership team that is actively cheering them on. If you are a leader who is ready to build something you are proud of inside a culture that values honesty, passion, and people, this one is worth a close look.
About Crosswinds Church
CrossWinds exists to lead people to embrace Jesus’ radical love, champion unity, and impact the world tangibly — and they’ve been doing it in the Tri-Valley for over 35 years. Located in Livermore on a remarkable 35-acre property that is genuinely unlike anything else in the Bay Area, CrossWinds is a church that takes its “Third Way” identity seriously: they believe it’s not their job to tell people where to land on the hard questions, but to create a space where people can wrestle with those questions and stay at the table together. They reach people who would never set foot in a traditional church, take creativity seriously as a vehicle for the gospel, and share their land with neighbors like Goodness Village — a tiny home community for formerly unhoused residents — and Eden Garden, an organic farm that feeds under-resourced families across the East Bay. CrossWinds is a community of real people with real stories who are loved by God, and they want the families who walk through their doors to feel exactly that.

About Livermore
Nestled in the heart of the Tri-Valley, Livermore offers a unique blend of small-town community and Bay Area opportunity. Known as California’s oldest wine region, the city combines a vibrant historic downtown, award-winning wineries, excellent schools, and a family-oriented culture that makes it one of the most desirable places to live in the East Bay. Residents enjoy a walkable downtown filled with local restaurants, coffee shops, community events, farmers markets, theaters, and year-round festivals, all while maintaining a slower pace of life than neighboring Silicon Valley communities. Livermore is also home to major research institutions and a growing economy, creating a community that values both innovation and deep local roots.
For families, Livermore is especially attractive. The city features more than 40 parks, thousands of acres of open space, extensive trail systems, youth sports, recreation programs, and nearby destinations like Del Valle Regional Park for hiking, camping, boating, and outdoor adventures. The surrounding Tri-Valley communities of Pleasanton, Dublin, and San Ramon provide additional amenities, strong school systems, and family activities within minutes of CrossWinds. The result is a community where families can build lasting relationships, enjoy an exceptional quality of life, and raise children in a safe, engaged, and growing environment while remaining connected to the broader Bay Area.
